Birthmarks are generally either defined areas of excess skin pigment, vascular lesions or a combination of both.  Vascular lesions can be either raised, such as a hemangioma, or flat as with port wine stains. 

Both can be safely, effectively, and comfortably  improved using the technologically advanced and individually adjustable vascular laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments at Avanti Skin Center.

Melasma is an acquired pigmentation due to excessive melanin deposit in sun-exposed areas. Looking like a dark stain of the skin, it can be speckled or confluent. The cheeks, the upper lip, the chin, and the forehead are the most common locations, but it can occasionally occur in other sun-exposed locations. Chloasma is a synonymous term sometimes used to describe the occurrence of melasma during pregnancy. Melasma is also a complication of hormone replacement therapy or from birth control pills.

Since melasma is an excessive skin pigmentation problem, the same treatments which effectively improve brown age spots and freckles can be used for this condition also. However, since there is usually an ongoing iinflammatory or hormonal component, maintenance treatment with topical

medications or cosmoceuticals as well as follow up laser and light treatments are needed to control this condition

An innovative way to quickly, safely and comfortably  stimulate the most superficial collagen layer, fade fine veins, and remove sun spots and age spots from your face, chest, arms, and hands without gel or topical anesthetics.  The signs of sun damage will flake off after one or more treatments leaving clear, younger looking skin.  “Intelligent”  Intense Pulse Light, at specific wavelengths  seeks out and safely destroys red and brown dyschromia (abnormal pigmentation) at the skin surface. Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic Therapy adds a light sensitizing agent called Levulan®  (5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA) which is absorbed by the target lesion thus accelerating and optimizing the effectiveness of the treatment.  These treatments can not only remove sun damaged precancerous zones and spots called actinic keratoses, but also improve the appearance of fine lines and blotchy pigmentation.  Moderately severe acne and rosacea also are effective targets for photodynamic therapy with amazing results.

Microdermabrasion
