Scars form as a result of injury or inflammation of the skin as it repairs itself.   They can be linear, raised, thick, depressed, uneven, vascular, darker (hyperpigmented), or paler (hypopigmented) than adjacent skin.  All of these features allow the scar to contrast and be more visible.

At Avanti Skin Center, after carefully evaluating the characteristics of your wound, specific individual non-invasive treatments can be chosen to improve its appearance.  Whether by using Laser Genesis™ or Microdermabrasion to stimulate collagen reorganization improving the texture and vascularity, or Limelight™ Intense Pulsed Light to even the skin tone, most scars can look better.

The best time to address scar concerns,however, is while the wound is still healing.  Starting 6-8 weeks after surgery or wound repair, treatment with lasers can promote a more organized collagen structure and significantly improve the final appearance of the wound!

TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES

Laser Genesis™
The Laser Genesis™ technique using the innovative 1064nm Nd:Yag laser at Avanti Skin Center treats the general textural changes associated with injured skin. The papillary dermis is targeted by the laser energy, with only a sensation of warmth, which stimulates collagen production and reorganization.  Over the course of the treatment schedule this stimulated tightening and  new production of superficial collagen improves the appearance of acne and wound scars.  In addition, redness of the scar will be toned down to match the surrounding skin thus improving it's appearance.

Limelight™ Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
Now featuring the newest and most advanced  Intense Pulsed Light  (IPL) system available today from Cutera®. In keeping with Avanti Skin Center’s philosophy to provide treatments individually tailored to your skin’s need, we now have control over all of the treatment parameters required to optimize your results, while maintaining the unique safety and comfort features unique to Cutera®.   

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments address an array of superficial pigment changes and fine vascularity that can make scars stand out: whether in the scar itself, or surrounding it as a frame.   Also, as an innovative way to quickly, safely and comfortably stimulate the most superficial collagen layer, the texture of the scar can be further blended to the surrounding tissue enhancing its appearance. The Cutera® light sources at Avanti utilize state of the art technology to safely and consistently provide you treatments which automatically calibrate with each pulse as well as having feedback contact cooling to add to your safety and comfort during these treatments.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a progressive, non-surgical approach to skin care which results in immediate improvement in your skins appearance and texture.  The ExcellaDerm™  M2000 used at Avanti Skin Center is a physician grade machine with multiple patents providing the most effective treatment possible.  It can be used alone, or as an adjunctive treatment to light based therapies providing quicker results.  Most individuals achieve maximum benefit from a series of treatments spaced two weeks to a month apart  Damaged and aged cells are exfoliated and vacuumed away, brown spots fade,  the production of collagen is stimulated, elasticity improved, the skin is smoothed, and scar appearance is improved.
